KINDNESS TO PARENTS : A Gateway to Paradise

In Islam, after the worship of Allah, no duty is greater than honoring one’s parents. Allah (SWT) commands:

“And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.” (Qur’an 31:14)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) emphasized this duty when asked about the most beloved deeds to Allah. He said:

“Prayer at its proper time.” He was asked, “What next?” He replied: “Kindness to parents.” (Bukhari and Muslim)

Kindness can be shown in many ways—speaking gently, providing support, making du’a for them, and never raising our voices against them. Even after their passing, we honor them by praying for them and keeping family ties.

A parent’s blessing opens the gates of Paradise, while their displeasure brings hardship. Let us treasure our parents while we have them, and if they are gone, continue to send them light through our prayers and good deeds.
