PHOTOS: LEMU Women Forum Organises Cervical Cancer Awareness Outreach

The Women Forum of Lekki Muslim Ummah (LEMU) on Saturday successfully held awareness lecture on cervical cancer.

This initiative is an outreach programme aimed at promoting awareness, prevention and early detection.

The programme which held at the Legacy Hall of Lekki Central Mosque had the female Itikaf participants in attendance.

Hajiya Kudirat Salihu, LEMU Amirah and Hajiya Fatima Braima, Secretary of LEMU Women Forum chaired the programme.

Dr. Nana Fati Habeebu, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist was the lead presenter of the day.

Dr Habeebu issued a call to action against cervical cancer, the leading cause of gynecological cancer deaths in Nigeria despite being preventable, the disease claims nearly 10,000 Nigerian women annually.

Her presentation highlighted persistent HPV infection as the primary cause and advocates for a dual-prong approach: vaccinating young women and implementing “screen and treat” programs to overcome resource barriers.

She emphasised that accessible, single-visit screenings are vital to reducing mortality in low-resource settings.
